📡 Klaytn RPC Traffic Keeps Coming to Pocket

Relay Recap #104 brings continued growth in Klaytn RPC relays, another strong week from Ethereum, and Meter moving up the earnings rankings. This recap covers stats from February 23 - March 1.

Happy Friday! Our team may be busy at ETHDenver, but we're still coming at you with another Relay Recap.

Relays were mostly flat this week, down just slightly from the weekly all-time high that we saw in the prior Recap. While we saw dips from some chains within Pocket's top 10 sources of relays, we saw another strong week from Ethereum that kept the total number of serviced relays about the same.

In fact, Ethereum bumped back over a 30% share of total relays during this period, moving just a percentage point behind Polygon for the largest share of relays. This week, Pocket Network nodes serviced more than 5 billion RPC relays just between Polygon and Ethereum.

Beyond Ethereum, growth in Klaytn RPC relays was a big story yet again, as the chain cleared 150 million weekly relays and moved up another spot in the Top 10 (now occupying the #8 spot).

Plenty more on these and other chains in the Chain Highlights section below!

Throughout this period, the network serviced an average of 1.268 billion daily relays. The daily high for this time period was recorded at 1.372 billion on February 26th.

Overall, 8.88 billion relays were serviced during the week. This was a 2% decrease from the 9.05 billion relays the prior week.

Node Earnings

From February 23rd through March 1, we had Ethereum continue to close in on Polygon in terms of total POKT earnings, while Gnosis - xDai came in a distant third.

In terms of average daily POKT per node, we saw the following chains make the Top 15 list.

Solana's big spike on the first day of this period was largely responsible for moving the chain up into the Top 3 for the week, while a dip in DFKchain relays moved it down two spots compared to last week.

Meter was another big mover here as well, as the chain jumped 7 spots thanks to a 40% growth in relays combined with a smaller pool of node runners servicing the chain. For Meter, relays jumped significantly on February 25th (from 82k to 125k daily), and have stayed fairly stable at those increased levels since then.

Meanwhile, Harmony had a similar dip in relays compared to DFKchain, and dropped 5 spots on this week's rankings as a result.

Node Infrastructure

As of March 1, Pocket Network’s decentralized infrastructure included 21,357 active nodes across more than 25 different countries, allowing the network to provide constant uptime and resiliency while supporting dozens of different chains.

This total node count was down about 0.8% from the previous week.

Note: PIP-22 and PUP-19 brought big changes to the incentives that shape Pocket’s node infrastructure, by way of introducing stake-weighted servicer rewards and increased validator rewards. We’ll likely continue seeing a consolidation of nodes, as node runners and providers combine stakes to take advantage of these incentive structures that were rolled out in v0.9.0.

Wrap Up

  • Klaytn RPC relays grow another 50%, flying past 150 million weekly relays.
  • Ethereum relays jump nearly 20%, keeping overall relays mostly flat for the week.
  • Meter's 40% relay growth helps the chain move up the earnings per node rankings.
